As incoming president of the school council, it's my great pleasure to welcome you to the Albert Park Primary School website, which provides an effective way for our principal, teachers, council, students, parents and broader school community to stay in touch. Those of us already involved with APPS know what a great school it is: Julie Askew leads a committed team of teachers and a motivated council, and students benefit from the inclusive, respectful, enjoyable and stimulating learning environment. Prospective APPS parents are welcome to these pages as well. The school year is always full-to-overflowing with excursions, incursions, concerts, events, sports, debating, our annual major fundraiser the school fete and of course, class time! So it's handy to have an online resource that's as informative, up-to-date and user-friendly as ours. Maybe it'll help us go paper-free sometime in the future! I'm looking forward to hearing your views, suggestions and yes, criticisms so that the council and I truly reflect the community of families we represent in helping to shape the evolution of our school. If you haven't met me or other council members, please feel free to introduce yourself to any of us, either with suggestions or questions, or simply to make a connection. The council sees its role as enabling and assisting staff to provide an optimal learning and teaching environment for our children, and to provide the opportunity for parents and the broader school community to take part in the rich life of the school. Our council meetings are open to anyone who'd like to attend (see the calendar for meeting dates), and we welcome participation by non-council members in the activities of council sub-committees. Involvement in your children's school can be beneficial for them and for you, and APPS relies on the generosity of parents who volunteer for uniform shop, fundraising, excursions, incursions, sport, reading, debating and many other activities. I urge you to get involved if you can. I'm sure your children will agree that it just might turn out to be fun! James Freemantle. The members of School Council for 2009 are:
